More on Leadership Gold

Wisdom for the
person behind the position.

Leadership Gold brings together John C. Maxwell’s insights from decades of studying, practising and teaching leadership. The curriculum explores 26 leadership strategies and experiences, including the practices and pitfalls leaders need to understand to be effective.

The central philosophy

Great leadership is not measured by how many people report to you, but by how many people become better because of your leadership.

The leadership challenge

Turn individual competence
into collective performance.

One of the greatest challenges facing organisations today is not the absence of technically competent people. It is the absence of leaders who can translate competence into collective performance.

A technically strong employee may become a supervisor without having learned how to lead former peers, communicate with different personalities, build trust, give and receive feedback, handle conflict, develop people or delegate effectively. Making difficult decisions, managing under pressure, inspiring discretionary effort and preparing the next generation of leaders also require intentional development.

A critical organisational reality: Promoting someone into leadership does not automatically develop them as a leader.

This programme focuses on the person behind the position. Participants will explore how to move:

  • From authority to influence
  • From managing tasks to developing people
  • From giving instructions to creating ownership
  • From individual performance to team performance
  • From reacting to problems to defining reality and taking responsibility
  • From short-term achievement to sustainable leadership impact

Purpose of the programme

Lead yourself. Lead people.
Lead performance.

The purpose of this programme is to equip leaders with the mindset, practical tools and behavioural capabilities required to lead themselves, lead people and lead organisational performance more effectively.

The programme seeks to help participants become leaders who:

  • Lead themselves before attempting to lead others.
  • Build credibility and trust.
  • Communicate effectively and listen to understand.
  • Recognise and develop people’s strengths.
  • Make better leadership decisions.
  • Navigate difficult situations with maturity.
  • Build collaborative and accountable teams.
  • Develop other leaders.
  • Create meaningful and sustainable organisational impact.
